Food safety is a top priority at Safeway. We have invested significant resources to ensure that we provide our customers with safe, wholesome food. To maintain our leadership position in this important area, Safeway partnered with leading life science company Puricore to install the Sterilox Food Safety System to rinse fresh produce and sanitize food contact surfaces to prevent cross-contamination with infectious pathogens. The Sterilox system is highly effective at killing harmful pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella and Norovirus and is equally effective against spoilage microorganisms such as Pseudomonas, yeasts and molds. When used on fresh produce, the Sterilox solution reduces the risk of infectious pathogens and enhances product shelf life.

On product labeling, we strive for precise declarations on all items we self-manufacture. We require outside corporate brand manufacturers to certify their ingredients come from reputable sources and comply with all applicable food safety and labeling regulations. Safeway will often bring in third-party experts to audit our processes and facilities and to analyze our products.

Safeway supports the requirements of all state and federal regulations to ensure the judicious and careful use of pesticides on the products we offer. The safety of our products is of utmost importance at Safeway, and we implement sustainable alternatives to pesticides where applicable.
