Jefferson's Dream: Thomas Jefferson, a great lover of wine, with the assistance of Italian viticulturist, Filippo Mazzei, made an attempt to establish a vineyard in Virginia. Two centuries later vitis vinifera planting were successfully established at Barboursville Vineyards located on the former plantation of Governor James Barbour whose mansion was designed by his close friend Thomas Jefferson. The mansion, destroyed by fire on Christmas Day 1884, now preserved as ruins, is a Virginia historic landmark. A classic red wine aged in white oak barrels. Dry, refreshing and spicy.
