Directions Make my Award-Winning Oatmeal at Home: Bring water and salt to a boil. Add steel cuts oats, reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes (or longer for creamier oatmeal. Remove from heat and let stand for 2 minutes. Servings: 1 serving; 1/4 cup oats; 3/4 cup water; pinch salt. 2 servings; 1/2 cup oats; 1-1/2 cups water; pinch salt. 3 servings; 3/4 cup oats; 2-1/4 cups water; 1/4 tsp salt. 4 servings; 1 cup oats; 3 cups water; 1/4 salt. Steel Cut Oats in The Slow Cooker: Combine 4 cups water, 1 cup oats and tsp salt in a 4-6 quarts slow cooker. Cover with lid and cook on low for 7-8 hours or overnight. Makes 4 servings. Store in a cool, dry place. Keeps best refrigerated or frozen after opening.
