The grains are steamed to push the rice's natural nutrients into the grain so they aren't lost in milling as with ordinary long grain rice. The steam takes off sticky surface starch so the grains cook up separate and fluffy, not sticky. Finally, each and every grain of Zatarain's rice is individually inspected for quality - grain by grain. Long Grain Parboiled Rice Enriched with Ferric Orthophosphate (Iron), Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate (Thiamine) and Folate.
Directions On the Stove: 1. Bring water to a boil. Add butter or margarine and salt if desired. 2. Stir in rice. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer on low 20 minutes. 3. Remove from heat. Let stand covered 5 minutes (or until all water is absorbed). Fluff with fork and serve. In the Microwave: 1. Combine rice and water in a microwave-safe dish. Add butter or margarine and salt if desired. 2. Cover and cook on high for 5 minutes. Reduce to medium and cook for 20 minutes. 3. Remove from microwave. Let stand covered for 5 minutes (or until all water is absorbed). Fluff with fork and serve. Microwave ovens vary, times given are approximate. 2 Servings (Cups of Cooked Rice): 1/2 cup rice; 1 cup water; 1/4 teaspoon salt; 1 tsp butter or margarine. 4 Servings (Cups of Cooked Rice): 1 cup rice; 2 cups water; 1/2 teaspoon salt; 2 tsp butter or margarine. 6 Servings (Cups of Cooked Rice): 1-1/2 cup rice; 3 cups water; 3/4 teaspoon salt; 1 tbsp butter or margarine. 12 Servings (Cups of Cooked Rice): 3 cups rice; 6 cups water; 1-1/2 teaspoon salt; 2 tbsp butter or margarine. For Best Results: A - For firmer rice, use less water and simmer for a shorter time. B - For softer rice, use more water and simmer for a longer time. C - Do not lift lid during cook (the steam cooks the rice).
