The grains are steamed to push the rice's natural nutrients into the grain so they aren't lost in milling as with ordinary long grain rice. The steam takes off sticky surface starch so the grains cook up separate and fluffy, not sticky. Finally, the rice inspected to provide the highest quality. Enriched Long Grain Parboiled Rice (Rice, Iron, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate Folic Acid).
Directions Stove top directions: 1. Bring water to boil in saucepan. Add butter or margarine and salt, if desired. 2. Stir in rice. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 20 minutes or until rice is tender and most of the water is absorbed. 3. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with fork before serving. Microwave directions: 1. Mix 2 1/2 cups water and 2 cup rice in microwavable bowl. Add 2 tsp. butter or margarine and 1/2 tsp. salt, if desired. Cover. 2. Microwave on high 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave on medium (50% power) 20 minutes or until rice is tender and most of the water is absorbed, stirring occasionally. 3. Let stand in microwave 5 minutes. Fluff with fork before serving. Microwave ovens vary; adjust cooking times as needed. Cooking times are based on an 1100 watt microwave oven. Caution: Bowl and contents will be very hot. Use pot holders when removing from microwave. Measurements: Cooked Rice: 1-1/2 cups; 1/2 cup rice; 1 cup water; 1 tsp. butter or margarine, optional; 1/4 tsp. salt, optional. For best results: For firmer rice, use less water and simmer for a shorter time. For softer rice, use more water and simmer for a longer time. Do not lift lid cooking (the steam cooks the rice). To retain vitamin, do not rinse before or drain after cooking.
